Improvements in Spring Compasses, Spring Dividers and the like.

7503. Fielding, C. T. May 19. Compasses and dividers are provided with a sliding sleeve or link so as to adjust the distance between the points. As shown in Fig. 1, a curved piece A of spring metal is provided with a clip at one end to hold a lead pencil or the like C, and a sleeve B is adapted to slide over both so as to adjust the distance between the points. In Fig. 4, a curved rigid rod A, which may be serrated on its underside R, is shown connected to the pencil &c. C by a sliding sleeve B provided with a spring D. In Fig. 6, a sleeve B is shown adapted to slide over the legs C of spring dividers, and a thumb-screw E may be provided for finer adjustment. Serrations may be formed on the outer edges of the legs C.
