Pottery; pottery, throwing and turning; pottery fittings, attaching.-The cup, mug, egg-cup, or the like a, Fig. 6, made slightly deeper than is required, is cut down, before attachment of the handle, to the proper size by rotation in a plaster-lined chuck b and the application of a tool which consists of a flat plate l1 bearing a blade l. The cut edge of the article is trimmed by a tool m, Fig. 7. The handles of cups, mugs, &c. are cast in the two-part mould, Fig. 8. After being trimmed to fit the contour of the vessel as described in Specification 100,231, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], the handle 10 is applied in the correct position while the article 5 is on a fixed chuck 4, Fig. 11, by the aid of a longitudinally-laid guiding and gauging arm 11 bearing a transverse stop 9. The arm is pivoted to a bearing 12 and can be turned up out of use. The transverse stop may be borne by an independent transverse arm.
