Fibres, obtaining.-Cellulose, especially suitable for use in paper making and in chemical industries, is prepared from the tow or fibres of the liber of Hibiscus Cannabinis and other species of the natural order or family malvaceae by retting, scutching, and combing. The fibres may be exposed to the sun's rays for some days and are then bleached by treatment with hypochlorite solution, obtained either by mixing chloride of lime solution with a solution of potassium carbonate or by electrolyzing sodium chloride solution. The cellulose, after being washed, is dried by exposure to sunlight and may be mercerized with caustic soda.
