Tubes, smoke.-A boiler smoke-tube or the like 1 is secured to a tube plate 5 by forcing a protecting ferrule 3 into the tube, thus bending over the tube-end 2 against the outer surface of the tube-plate. The ferrule is inserted by means of a screwed bolt engaging with blocks at each end of the tube. The outer edge of the hole in the tube plate may be slightly smoothed or bevelled.
