摘要
107,634. Ingleby, J. C. B. July 4, 1916. Actuating pumps by fluid-pressure.-The apparatus comprises a double-acting cylinder A with a loose piston D driven by explosions and when double acting as shown compressing the combustion products into a reservoir P, but when single acting, air. When the apparatus has been started the momentum of the piston compresses a charge in one end of the cylinder where it is ignited by a spark between the insulated electric terminal R and the piston. The explosion drives back the piston and, on the uncovering of the ports N by the piston, products escape past a valve into the reservoir. The fall of pressure behind the piston causes air and gas to enter through the ports K and these gases are compressed by the return of the piston under the influence of the explosion in the other end of the cylinder. To start the apparatus both ends of the cylinder are primed through cocks S and ignited by a sparking plug T. Passages 0 are open to the atmosphere for the escape of products of combustion and are closed gradually as the apparatus attains its normal speed of working. When air is compressed in one end of the cylinder the exhaust ports' 0 are situated further from the other end than they are shown. The piston is returned by the expansion of air which is trapped in the pump end. A modified apparatus also is described. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 2000/67, 3690/67, 1537/70, 3191/76, 1990/80, 3375/82, 9194/99, 24320/05, 4984/11, 18465/11, and 28187/11.
