Gas turbines; hot-air engines. -In an elastic-fluid or gas turbine, the working fluid after admission is compressed by the action of a part of the vanes, and subsequently expands over another section of the vanes. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to a hot-air turbine, taking in atmospheric air at A. This air in being carried through the part I to X is compressed by the action of gases from the space S, which gases entering at I, flow through the chambers I to X and compress the air carried between the vanes. The compressed air is then heated by the furnace T and flows through a pipe B to the space S1, where it enters the vanes at 1. The useful work is then done over the part 1 to 12, exhaust taking place at Z. Regulating-valves are provided at K, L, and P, and fans may be used to assist the circulation of air. A compound form of turbine is described and illustrated in the Specification.
