Hulling, husking, and decorticating. - Relates to apparatus for depericarping palm nuts, olives, &c., and of the kind in which the nuts are fed on to a rotary drum or barrel, the pericarp being rubbed off and ejected by centrifugal force through surrounding members composed of a number of rectangular scraping bars mounted and supported in position between end rings so as to form a rotatable slotted casing or cage. The invention consists in the arrangement of a barrel provided with grooves in combination with a cage comprising an open framework provided with scraper blades. In the apparatus as shown in Fig. 1, the nuts are fed by a worm k from a hopper j to the rotary barrel a provided with grooves b which may be straight, angularly stepped, or helical as shown in Fig. 6. The nuts are thereby carried round in contact with scraper bars d secured to sectional rings i on a casing or open framework formed of annular and longitudinal ribs h, the pericarp being ejected centrifugally between the scraper blades and collected in a hopper under the machine.
