July 23, 1917 Ironing-machines with pressing action only; feeding-arrangements. - Relates to machines for opening and pressing the seams, and for pressing the edges of garments during manufacture, and comprises a fixed iron B and a movable iron C the latter being supported at one end on a collar C' up on an adjustable rod Hand raised by treadles T or W and plungers E for pressing the seam The end of the ma terial Q, Fig. 4, i: clamped by a pivoted piece K against a flange K3 on a movable carrier K. This carrier is moved inwards by links &c. L, M, N, O, P connected to a treadle F so as to draw in a sufficient length of seam for one operation, the seam being opened as it is drawn in. After the operation, the carrier returns to the right, and the piece K1 is released by striking a fixed stop K5. The plungers E are connected to the treadle W, which is overlapped by the arm of the end treadle T, by a system of links, as shown in Fig. 3, the pivots E5, E6 being fixed. A carrier K may be fitted at each side of the lower iron. The rod H and lower iron are adjusted by an eccentric G on a rod I fitted with a handle J and ratchet R. When edge pressing is to be performed, the carrier K is moved to the right, and the work is supported on a table level with the top of the lower iron, the edge being inserted from the front and the treadle W being used.
