117,288. Birkbeck, H., (Green, L.). July 4, 1917. Sleepers, securing rails to; tie-bars.-Flatfooted rails are secured to chairs or supports such as are described in Specification 11951/13, 8514/14, and 8698/14 by means of bolts C which pass through the chair plate and are drawn up by a nut D. The bolt is arranged near the edge of the foot of the rail, and has a flange portion C1 to en. gage over the foot, and is surmounted by a shaped portion C2 for a spanner. A spring or other washer E may be used between the chair plate and nut. The other edge of the rail foot may be secured in the same way or by any other known means. A tie-bar connecting two chairs is formed of a bar H having notched on its under edge and a recess H1 in its upper edge at each end. The side uprights of the chains A are slotted to receive the tie-bar and are engaged by the notches in the tie-bar. The tie-bar is prevented from rising by the bolt C entering the recess H1, and may also be held by a tongue E1 on the washer E bearing on the upper surface.
