Jackets and covers.-In a pneumatic tyre comprising a soft rubber or like elastic core g fitted within the outer extensible tubular portion f of the cover, and an inflatable tube e enclosed by the inextensible part b, the web c' arranged between the core g and tube e is so shaped that inflation of the tube distorts the web outwardly so as to set up tension, both circumferentially and transversely, in the core. The dotted lines in the Figure represent the inflated (running) condition of the tyre. The core g may be in tension before inflation of the tube, as by being formed of less internal diameter normally than the diameter of the web c1. The latter may also be normally curved transversely, inwardly or outwardly, provided inflation of the air-tube will cause the necessary outward distortion.
