摘要
In order to obtain a product suitable for use in making paint, linoleum, &c., the fatty acids derived from linseed oil are heated to 500-600 DEG F. for 4 hours and upwards. The operation may be effected in the presence of driers such as the linoleates of lead and manganese, borate of manganese, or a cobalt drier. The oily product so obtained may be mixed with pigments for the manufacture of paint, or it may be oxidized and dried for the manufacture of linoleum, floorcloth, lincrusta, &c. The oxidation processes described in Specifications 12000/90 and 7126/94 may be used. Alternatively, the oily body is mixed with a "concentrated drier" (containing resin and lead, manganese, or cobalt base) and whitening, chalk, China clay, ochre, or other finely-divided earth colour, and the mixture is heated to 150-180 DEG F. for about 24 hours and oxidized under agitation by means of a current of air. Kauri gum or other gum or resin is then added, and the heating and agitation are continued until a product of the requisite density is obtained.
