Improvements Combining Optical Illusions of Life Movements with Gramophones and like Apparatus for Study and Amusements.

Games of chance.-Apparatus for enabling a game to be played comprises cards H, arranged radially and bearing numbered images of racehorses &c., mounted on a turntable or spindle such as that of a disk talking machine; a kinematographic effect is stated to be produced as the cards are rotated. The cards rotate over, or partly over, a stationary card C which has divisions bearing images numbered in accordance with the numbers on the cards H, and also a scale constituting a scoring system, a pointer K, which turns with the cards H, indicating the score after the cards H have come to rest. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cards Hare carried by an adapter E on the turntable A of a talking- machine, and the card C is carried above and clear of the turntable by pillars D. In a modification, Fig. 3, in which the talking-machine has a cover Q, the cards Hare mounted on a column R projecting through an opening in the cover Q, a grooved cap V uniting them at the top; the card C rests on the cover. One or more sets of radial cards M bearing images corresponding to those on the cards H are arranged on spindles 0 and may be rotated by the impact of the cards H or by gearing from the motor of the talking machine to give a kinematographic effect. Foreground objects, such as railings &c., may be attached to the cards H, and backgrounds on cards arranged at the sides or back of the apparatus may be provided. The backgrounds may alternatively be painted on mirrors which replace the cards, and the mirrors may have plain parts in which the cards H are viewed by reflexion. The images on the cards H may also be inverted and viewed by reflection in a circular mirror beneath them.
