128,593. Brock, A. Jan. 3, 1917. Cameras for roll-films with connected action between shutter and changing-mechanism; aeronautical apparatus.-A camera for taking a series of overlapping photographs from aircraft is suspended by yielding damping-means so that its axis is maintained in the same direction in all positions of the aeroplane, and counterbalancing-means are provided to maintain the position of the centre of gravity when the film is wound from one spool to the other. The camera A, Fig. 1, is suspended by means of gimbals Y, dash-pots Z, Z1 being provided between the camera and gimbal frame Y and between the gimbal frame Y and the framework X of the aeroplane respectively. The dashpots comprise a cylinder Z, Fig. 4, containing a piston Z3 and provided with an adjustable by-pass Z5. The film is positioned and exposures made by means of a spring motor, and the timing determined by adjustable clock-work as described in Specification 128,609. To prevent the winding of the film from the supply roll C, Fig. 9, to the roll F from disturbing the position of the centre of gravity of the apparatus, a counterweight S' is mounted on a lever S5 connected through linkwork to a roller S2 kept in contact with the film on the roll C by means of a spring S8. The photographs obtained by this apparatus are utilized for plotting maps and determining the height and distances between different points, and also the height of the aircraft at which the photographs were taken.
