Planting - tools. - A tool for making holes for planting potatoes, transplanting plants, &c. without compressing the soil, comprises a stem or shaft, a casting secured on the shaft, and a cylindrical container or cutter fastened to the casting and having its cutting end slightly tapered or reduced in diameter. The tubular iron stem is threaded for attachment of a T-piece in which a cross handle is secured by a a screw E. The casting, Fig. 3, is provided with a projecting foot-piece F, and is secured on the stem by means of the pin and clamping-nuts shown in Fig. 1. The tubular cutter or container is fastened to the casting by screws G, and its lower end is slightly tapered as shown in Fig. 7 or reduced in diameter as shown in Fig. 6.
