摘要
129,241. Clare, C. H. March 28, 1919. Chucks.-A chuck for holding drills, taps, reamers, and like tools or bars particularly parallelshank drills, consists of an internally threaded shank engaging the left-hand threaded end of a split taper sleeve so that as the chuck commences to rotate the sleeve is forced outward to engage an internally coned removable nose-piece. The shank a has an external right-hand thread to secure the coned nosepiece c, and an internal left-hand thread to engage a similar thread on the tapered split sleeve b'. The inner end of the sleeve may be closed except for a flat-sided slot b3 to receive the drill &c. shank, or may be open to allow the drill, bar, &c. to project any desired distance into the shank. The drill &c. is inserted in the sleeve and pressed against the work, and the shank is rotated. The sleeve is held stationary by friction between the drill and the work, and thus moved forward by its screw-thread into the nose c, which closes it on the drill &c. The drill &c. is released by rotating the nose c, which may be knurled or may have flats to engage a spanner &c. The nose may be secured to the shank by engaging cam surfaces or eccentrics.
