Improvements in Attachments for Adapting the Screw Cutting Type of Lathe for the Relieving of Milling Cutters, and which Improvements are applicable to other Lathes for the Relieving of Milling Cutters.
129,764. Walker & Sons, G., and Hopkins, H. N. Dec. 19, 1918. Attachments for turning.-A lathe attachment for relieving milling-cutters consists of a crossslide c reciprocated by a two-part cam in the form of a dog clutch, one part d1 of which is fixed removably to the cross-slide, while the other part d is fixed to a removable shaft a driven at the requisite speed from the main lathe-drive through self-contained change and bevel gearing on a detachable shaft g2. The parts of the cam are held together by springs h which allow of their separation, and consequent feed of the tool, as the shaft a rotates, and provides a quick return of the tool for operation on the next tooth of the milling- cutter. The parts of the cam are removable to allow of varying the amount of relief given.
