140,835. Marsh, G. July 4, 1918. Electrode furnaces.-Tools, crucibles, metals, or refractory materials are heated by metal molten by an arc, and also by passage of current between a conductor connected with the tools &c. and a conducting extending into the molten metal. The tools &c. may be placed in a pocket in the wall of a furnace containing molten metal, or, as shown in Fig. 4, in a crucible f immersed in the metal m which is heated by an arc between electrodes b, Fig. 2, additional electrodes d, g being provided for passage of current through the tools &c. The metal m may consist of a ferrous alloy with chrome, cobalt, and tungsten, and a small percentage of vanadium and molybdenum. An insulated conductor c extends between the electrodes b.
