141,590. Warry, A. E. Aug. 12, 1919. Crulches.-A crutch, convertible into a walking - stick, comprises telescoping tubes A, B that can be locked in any relative position by rotating the handle J and the attached screwed rod F, thus causing a wedge E to move axially to jam the lower end of the inner tube against the walls of the outer tube. Rotation of the wedge is prevented by wings G engaging slots in the inner tube. An inner tube K may be drawn out of the walking-stick handle J to form a complete crutch head. The continued rotation of the handle, after the wedge E is fixed in the locking position, moves the rod F axially until the end play in the squared portion F' is taken up, thus causing the nut M to bind on the tube K and lock it in its extended position. A detachable handle O may be fitted to the stem when the appliance is used as a crutch.
