Traps for animals.-In forming snares for rabbits &c. and for other purposes, wires are twisted together by an apparatus comprising a rotatable non-slidable pin 13 and a slidable non-rotatable pin 18 carried by separate brackets 1 and 15, and a reel from which the wire is led over the pins. The wire is led the desired number of times round the pins, and the pin 13 is then rotated by a handle 12 through gears 10, 11 to twist the strands together and to form the loop through which the other end, when severed, is passed to form the running noose. When the loop is to contain an eyelet, this is put on the pin 13 and the wire led round it. The brackets are secured by screws 6 through pins or spikes 4, 8 to a bench 3. The pin 17 which may form part of or be secured to the pin 18 is provided with a notch 21 to receive a locking pin 22 and is retracted by a spring. The pin 22 prevents movement of the pin 18 when the wire is bent round the pins, but is removed when twisting begins so as to allow the pin 17 to be slidable. A construction of reel is described. Each snare when made is removed from the pins and the next then made, the snares being severed from each other when the reel is empty. The holes in the pegs for setting up the snares may be made by holding the peg against a drill, which replaces the pin 13.
