Codes.-Relates to perforated card controlled statistical machines, and particularly to methods of representing data by combinations of perforations and to differential mechanism for co-operating with such cards in machines of the type described in Specification 131,902, [Class 106 (i), Calculating, &c.] The combinations employed are shown in the "key," Fig. 16, and are shown applied to both additive and non-additive numerical data and to classification data expressed numerically in a card in Fig. 15. The cards are presented to the pins 202, Fig. 3, and rock levers 228 on shafts 229 to position lever stops 230 which engage and differentially set slides 232 corresponding to the "key" combination for each digit. The slides 232 are in sets of four, and have notches on the rear edge to engage projections on stop levers 261 pivoted also in sets of four on a shaft 244. The slides and stop levers are spring controlled and are restored to normal when necessary by yokes on shafts 253 and 244 respectively, operated by a timing cam. The slides 232 thus take the setting from a card early and set the stop levers 261 and are locked thereby, the latter engaging in fours by their curved profiled edges, ears on the downwardly extending arms of pivoted stops q so as to engage pins r on the sectors l and set them.
