Open-hearth furnaces.-A reversible regenerative open-hearth furnace for use particularly in melting steel and other metals is heated by liquid hydrocarbons ignited in vessels L arranged in chambers C. These communicate with the working-chamber A, where combustion of the gases is completed by hot air supplied from regenerators E through ports C1. The working-chamber A is mounted on rails a to facilitate its removal to the required spot for casting operations or to carry out repairs. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) mentions the use of such fuels as heavy oils, pitch, tar &c. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
