147,198. Rail Welding & Bonding Co., (Assignees of Lincoln, J. C.). Aug. 9, 1913, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Rail bonds.-For cast-welding a bond c to the rail ends, the bond is held in place by a mould d, preferably of carbon or carbon lined, having enlarged recesses d1 for the bond heads, and an electric arc or other flame is formed in the recesses to effect surface fusion, an additional supply of bonding material being optionally added to form the bond terminals while the fusion is in progress. The mould is held on to the rails by clamps e and is so formed as to shield the body of the bond from heat, as shown in Fig. 2. For arc welding, a carbon is used for the negative terminal. The additional material is added by introducing an independent copper rod into the recess d' after the preliminary fusion of the bond head and rail surfaces. The bond may consist of U-shaped laminµ c1 with end bands c11.
