105,314. British Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 30, 1916. Protective arrangements.-A constant-current circuit, interposed between the generator circuit and the load circuit, is short-circuited in the event of an overload, to prevent the current from traversing the load circuit. The generator 1, Fig. 1, is connected to the corners 10, 11 of a monocyclic square formed of equal capacities 8, 9 and equal inductances 6, 7. The corners 12, 13 are connected by a constant current circuit to the corners 16, 17 of a second square, the other corners of which are connected b'y the load 26. When an overload occurs, a spark jumps the gap 27, reduces the current to zero, and causes the relav 30 to be lifted. The circuit-breaker 3 is thus tripped after the current is zero. In a modification, an inductance 32 and a condenser 33 forming a resonant circuit are connected in shunt with the winding of the relay 38. A spark-gap is connected across the inductance or condenser, and this is short-circuited when the relay rises on overload. The member of the resonant circuit that is not short-circuited prevents the current from flowing, and the circuit-breaker opens upon reduction in voltage.
