Improvements in and relating to a process for obtaining highly viscous lubricating oils from peat tar

Oxygen-containing compounds, such as creosote oil, are removed from peat-tar by washing the tar with aqueous acetone, aqueous alcohol or other solvent. The acetone solution left after separation of the paraffin wax by the process described in the parent Specification may be treated with water or aqueous acetone to obtain an aqueous layer containing the creosote.ALSO:The method of separating paraffin wax and lubricating-oils from tars, described in the parent Specification, is applied to the treatment of peat tar. Oxygen-containing compounds, such as creosote oil, may be removed by washing the tar or the acetone solution left after separation of the paraffin wax with aqueous acetone, aqueous alcohol or other solvent.
