Manufacture of phlorobutyrophenone, phloroisobutyrophenone and their homologues

Phlorobutyrophenone and phloroisobutyrophenone of the formul :- FORM:0157854/2/1 or their homologues, are obtained by treating phloroglucinol or a homologue thereof, dissolved in dry ether, with butyronitrile or isobutyronitrile, and dry hydrochloric acid gas; the resulting ketimide hydrochlorides are then decomposed by acidifying and boiling with water, giving the free ketones. According to examples, phlorobutyrophenone and phloroisobutyrophenone are obtained in the form of white needles; monomethyl- and dimethyl-phlorobutyrophenone are obtained from monomethyl- and dimethyl-phloroglucinol respectively. The compounds, even in very dilute solution, are effective remedies for intestinal worms.
