Gravity-separation apparatus.- Apparatus for recovering oil and grease from the discharge water of steamships &c. comprises a vertical cylinder A to which the waste water is supplied through a pipe B passing through the cover of the cylinder and extending to near the bottom, where it is surrounded by a pipe C which is open at the top. The oil and water separate in the cylinder A, the water being discharged through a pipe D. The oil with air and a small quantity of water leaves by a pipe E which opens over a funnel at the top of a pipe G leading into a second cylinder H. The cylinder H has a pipe I for the discharge of water and a cock at the side for the discharge for oil.
