Moulds; tamping-machines.-In a box mould for forming concrete blocks and slabs for walls &c., the front, sides, and cover are hinged and are slidable to relieve the suction between the concrete and the front &c. whereby smooth faces are formed on the block. The mould comprises a base A, to which is secured a back plate B. To the base are hinged, by means of hinge-members J1 rotatable and slidable on bars J, a front H and sides E, and to the back plate is similarly hinged a cover D. The sides are held in position by pins F and the front is held by a bar G, a pin K', and a plate I. In operation, a pallet, indicated by the dotted lines a, b, is placed in the mould and concrete is filled in and tamped by means of the cover. The cover, front, and sides are then slid on the hinge-bars and afterwards hinged open, the block being removed with the pallet.
