Paper-shelves; sheet-guiding arrangements; margin stops.-A device for determining the top or bottom margin on a sheet comprises a shelf or support provided with adjustable stops or gauges for the sheet, and scales for indicating the number of lines that have been typed; the device may be provided also with side gauges for the sheets. The shelf 1 is provided with adjustable stops or gauges 12, 13, and line-spacing scales 9, 10 which slide in channels and are retained in adjusted position by springs. The shelf is hinged to a plate 4 which is secured to the paper-carriage a by clamps 7 and is provided with a screw 8 for adjusting the inclination of the shelf. The stops 12, 13 are set to coincide with the bottom and top edges of the sheet when the first and last lines respectively are typed. The scale 9 is set with the graduation " o " in register with the bottom edge when the first line is typed and the number of lines typed is indicated by the reading of the top edge on the scale. When the top edge passes on to the shelf, the scale 10 is set to transfer the reading to the top edge. The scales are reversible and are formed on opposite sides with single and double linespace graduations respectively. The device may be provided with longitudinally adjustable side gauges 14 for the sheets, and a longitudinally adjustable pointer 6 for indicating line-end position on the sheet; the pointer may be formed with a short scale. One of the scales 9, 10 may be replaced by a two-limbed scale having single and double line-space graduations, the other scale being placed at the middle. One of the stops or gauges 12, 13 may be dispensed with. Screws may be employed for securing the scales.
