193,516. Lillesoe, J. P. Ncv. 26, 1921. Saddles and seats; spring devices. - Spring systems for cycle saddles and seats, for example pillion seats, comprise one or more isosceles or nearly isosceles triangles, the apex a, Fig. 1, of which is pivoted to a frame 1, while the other corners are acted on by springs e, f, the seat top being pivotally attached in front of the centre of gravity of the load to a point near the centre of the base of the triangle, and the front end of the seat top being pivoted to the frame. In modifications, the front end of the saddle is connected with the frame by a link h. Fig. 2, which may be telescopic and resilient and one corner only of the triangle may be subject to spring action the saddle being then pivotally connected with the other base corner. The springs are adjustably tensioned, and the point of attachment to the triangle may be varied. The system may include two triangles disposed base to base and connected by a spring e as shown in Fig. 9. The saddle or seat proper may consist of an uncovered metal plate. Means for attaching a saddle to its pillar comprise an annular member 17, Fig. 5, encircling the pillar and provided with threaded arms 18, 19, each encircled by a disc jaw 20. The outer corrugated faces of the jaws engage correspondingly corrugated faces of members 21 slidable in slots in the underframe of the saddle, and securing nuts are provided.
