194,862. Cundy, J. A. Jan. 24, 1922. Curtains, drawing etc.; poles and rods.-In means for drawing curtains, the active or conveyer part of the operating cord is arranged at or on the surface of the rod &c., and the inactive part is situated within the rod &c. In the case of a tube adapted to carry a pair of curtains, Fig. 1, the active parts A, B of the cord run side by side for a short distance, so that the curtains may overlap. A plate C inserted in the tube to act as a stiffener, projects slightly above the tube and raises the curtains where they meet. The curtain rings may be driven by friction only or be attached to the cords by tape. When the rod is curved, pulleys are provided at the points where the cords pass into the tube, and when the curved rod carries a single curtain, the cords are not crossed, but a slot is provided at the bend, and a loop on the cord carries a master-ring on the curtain. When a solid rod is used, Fig. 4, the end pulleys are replaced by fixed guides, and the inactive parts of the cord are passed through grooves in the red. Fig. 5 shows a curved tube provided with a channel in which the active cord runs. A guard F at the bead keeps the cord in place, and a loop N on the cord carries a master-ring D. Pulleys X may be provided as shown. Curved tubes Y, Fig. 7, may be connected by straight wooden rods Z, and a solid rod may be strengthened at its middle by the insertion of a metal tube P, Fig. 8, and the provision of a tapered joint M. Various arrangements of pulleys are described.
