216,673. Olsson, H. May 8, 1923. Body attachments, buoyant; swimming appliances. - Apparatus designed for supporting the chin of a swimmer has two or more floats spaced apart by rigid members. As shown, a main ficat 1 has a recess 4 to receive the chin, and arms 2 to which auxiliary floats 3, adjustable to different positions 15 on the arms, are attached. The arms are pivoted to ribs 5 and are held by turn buckles 11. A screen 10 is provided on the main float between the arms, and an adjustable and removable coaming 12 of celluloid keeps water from the nose and mouth. The buoyancy of the floats and the position of the centre of buoyancy are adjustable. The floats may be of rubber &c., and inflated, or may be of metal with means for introducing water, or may be of cork in removable sections. The device is secured to the swimmer by a band 16 which may be wholly or partly buoyant. Independent floats may be attached to the legs of the swimmer by cords of such length as to support the legs at the required depth. In a modification, the main float carries an adjustable horizontal chin supporting plate to which the arms, coaming, &c. are attached. In a further modification, the chin is supported by a band stretched between the arms 2. A further form comprises two floats hinged together, one supporting the chin and the other the chest of the swimmer.
