Sleepers, securing rails to; sleepers, metal, have a flat top 10, arcuate sides 13 and tangential portions 14 extending downwardly with adjacent ends, leaving a gap 15 at the centre line of the sleeper. The arcuate sides 13 extend through less than 180‹, and the lower portions are inclined at. 1 in 4 to the horizontal. The rails are secured by clamps 17 which have a rail-engaging lip 19 and a rib 20 engaging the sleeper and are secured by a bolt 21 placed close to the lip 19. Lugs 18 on the clamp each side of the bolt may engage a slot in the sleeper.
