Improvements relating to the production of concentrated rubber latex and of rubber from rubber latex

Latex, concentrating.-Latex is concentrated or solid rubber is separated from it by treatment with a vegetable or animal colloid substance such as carrageen or Iceland moss or gelatine. Concentration may be effected by adding 14 litres of water containing 140 grams of moss to 100 litres of latex and allowing the mixture to stand at 50- 60‹ C., whereupon it separates into two layers of which one contains all the rubber at twice the original concentration. Coherent layers of rubber may be obtained by pouring latex, either concentrated or not, upon a jelly or gelatin or other colloid to which dehydrating agents such as glycerin or molasses may have been added. If concentrated latex is used filling and vulcanizing agents may be added to it.
