Improvements in or relating to the elimination of fatty acids, resins, bitter and mucous substances from oils and fats

Fats and fatty oils other than wool fat are purified by heating with a mixture of water, ammonia, and a solvent that is mixible with water, and dissolves fatty acids, resins, and bitter and mucilaginous substances but not neutral fats. Solvent mixtures specified are (a) 90-96 lb. of alcohol, 10-4 lb. of water, and 3 lb. of ammonia gas; (b) 50 lb. of alcohol, 50 lb. of water, and 3 lb. of ammonia gas. The alcohol, water, and ammonia may be recovered by distillation. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) is not limited as to the fats that may be treated. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
