228,375. Horner, J. H. March 10, 1924. Type-wheel machines; platen-impression arrangements; paper-supports. - In machines such as are described in Specification 211,305, comprising two type-rollers for printing amounts on cheques &c. in both words and figures, the impression-platen is so arranged on a rocking support that it can be raised or lowered to print first from one type-roller and then from the the other, the arrangement enabling the same machine to deal with cheques &c. having the word and figure spaces at different intervals; the impression-platen may also be adjustable longitudinally for adjusting the printing position on the cheque &c., or from printing on the stub. A platen roller 1 having an apron 3 for retaining the cheque &c. is mounted in a frame 5, which can slide horizontally on a carrier 7 slidable vertically on a frame 2 which is pivoted at the bottom and can be rocked by means of a link d operated by a hand-lever. The frame 5 is retained in the set horizontal position by means of a spring-pin 12 engaging notches, and screws 4 are provided for limiting the movement of the frame. The carrier 7 rests in the upper position on catches 10, releasable, by a hand-lever 11, and in the lower position on buffers 14. In operation the carrier is placed in the upper position and an impression is taken from the word-type roller b ; the carrier is then dropped and, after turning the platen roller to bring the space for figures into position, an impression is taken from the figure-type roller c. The platen roller is adjusted longitudinally to cause the printing to be received in the correct places on the cheque &c., or on the stub.
