Beams; bearings. - A scale beam for coal scales and the like is provided with transverse bars or projections and rectangular side slots, the steel fulcrum pieces being bolted or otherwise secured to the transverse bars or projections and passing, with a socket-like fit, through the slots so that the knife-edges of the fulcrum pieces project beyond the confines of the scale beam. The beam a, one longitudinal side of which is shown in Fig. 1, is cast with transverse bars b and projections b1. The fulcrum pieces c are cut from rectangular bars of tool or other hard steel and are passed through rectangular slots or sockets a1, Fig. 3, in the sides of the beam and are bolted to the transverse bars or projections.
