243,166. Ramsay, R. K., and Mayhew, M. J. Nov. 28, 1924. Impact pulverizers.-In a grinding, milling, or pulverizing machine comprising a grinding-chamber and a battery of loosely-mounted impact elements, the blades of the suction fan or blower are mounted so that they can yield in the event of any unyielding object being sucked from the grinding-chamber by the fan. Preferably the fan or blower is fitted with pivoted arms or blades. As shown, the curved blades of the fan 10, Figs. 1 and 3, are pivoted at their inner edges on spindles or bolts 11 concentrically disposed about the main shaft 4 of the machine. The spindles may be mounted in discs on the shaft and the blades be disposed between the discs. The impact. elements 6 are square plates with scalloped edges and are carried by bolts 7 passing through spaced discs 5 secured to the shaft 4. The openings 8 in the elements are shown cruciform in shape, but they may be substantially square, to allow of radial outward movement of the elements. The elements may be circular of polygonal with their edge or edges preferably notched or serrated. The lower part of the cylindrical wall 9 of the grinding-chamber 1 is formed as a screen through which the pulverized material passes into the outlet passage 3 along which it is drawn by the fan 10. A transverse guard in the feed-shoot 2 prevents stones &c. from passing with the barley or other material into the machine. The chamber 1 may be provided with a wall partly perforated and partly imperforate as described in Specification 235,955.
