248,809. Lees, E. R. Nov. 5, 1924. Inductance.-Inductance coils are wound on a former consisting of a cylindrical core having rows of holes parallel to the axis, the holes being spaced both longitudinally and circumferentially, into which holes pins are removably fitted. A development of the cylindrical surface is shown. The winding is commenced by a plain turn f, f1 round the former g and is continued as a second turn alternately on opposite sides of adjacent pins e1, e2 in a circumferential row until the end of the turn f3 is reached. A second plain turn f4, f5 is then wound followed by a wave turn f6, f7, the wave form of which is similarly disposed to that of the turn f2, f3. The winding is continued in .a similar manner until a single layer of the required number of turns has been completed. Further layers may be similarly wound, insulating strips separating the layers. The plain turns between the wave turns may be omitted, or two or more may be wound between successive wave turns. After winding, the pins are removed from the former and the coil withdrawn. It may be varnished or otherwise treated to consolidate the windings. Tappings may be brought out during winding. A gap may be left for a diametral rod. Specification 234,635 is referred to in a disclaimer. According to the Provisional Specificaton the coils may be produced by a machine which forms the wire into shape with or without the use of pins.
