Distilling zinc.-A process for eliminating zinc from fine zinciferous ores &c., especially zinciferous purple ore or calcined residues, of the type in which the ore, after desulphurization, is subjected to a melting process to volatilize the zinc and to convert the remaining non-volatile constituents into a slag, consists in first sintering and desulphurizing the finely-divided ore &c. by one of the known sintering processes, for example in a Dwight-Lloyd furnace, reducing the product to lumps of a convenient size, and then treating it with coal or coke in a shaft or blast furnace.
