Cleaning and pickling.-In a process for pickling and removal scale and rust from articles of iron and steel, small quantities of organic compounds containing at least one carbonyl group such as ketones of the aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons are added to the mineral acids usually used. Instead of ketones, the reduction products of ketones such as alcohols ur a mixture of ketones and alcohols may be used. In an example 5-8 grams of acetone are added to 1 litre of dilute acid, e.g. the litre of sulphuric acid produced by mixing 1 part of sulphuric acid 66‹ BÚ. with 9 parts of water.
