Breaking and scutching apparatus; carding- engines; combing-machines; heckling-machines; openers, cleaners, &c.-Relates to a method of determining and indicating the positions of the pins or the like in apparatus for opening, breaking, heckling, carding, combing, and performing like operations on fibrous material, wherein the pins or the like are arranged in rows, so that in any complete section or part of the apparatus no pin is in the same operative line as a pin in front of or behind it. The number of rows of pins &c. and the pitch of the pins &c. are determined with reference to the required number in a unit area, and the pins are spread regularly over the surface and arranged at the corners of rhombuses, squares, &c.
