Improvements in or relating to needle lubricating devices for sewing machines

Lubricating needles.-In a device for lubricating the needle or other work engaging part of a sewing machine of the curved book needle type, lubricant is applied to the needle by a pad 8 carried by an arm 7 cam-actuated in timed relation to the movement of the needle. The arm 7 may for example be mounted on the shaft 6 of the cam-actuated arm 5 which controls the operation of the presser-foot. Oil is supplied to the pad from a reservoir 1 through a pipe 3 with which communication is established for a short interval as a plunger 13 having a duct 14 is moved across the outlet 2 of the reservoir. This movement is effected bv a flexible connection 15 with an arm 16 actuated on the starting and stopping of the machine, e.g. the tension con. trolling arm. The plunger duct moves across the opening in one direction on starting and in the other direction on stopping. The plunger fits airtight in its guideway so that no oil will pass from the pipe 3 on to the pad, except when the duct 14 and outlet 2 are in alignment.
