Shoots.-The outlet shoot of a storage hopper a for delivering coal, coke, gravel, sand, &c. into truck is provided with a pivoted quadrantal gate b1, b2 having a hollow depending portion b3 arranged so that when in the discharging position, as shown, the edge b5 extends above the free surface of the material as determined by a rearwardly directed plate e3 beneath the hopper. The lower wall e2 of the shoot extends laterally a distance x beyond the opening of the hopper a, so that the weight of the material is supported mainly by the shoot, and the pivoted door b2 is easily swung into the position shown in broken lines to close the shoot for removal of the truck. The shoot and the door comprise sector-shaped side plates c, b1 connected by transverse plates e3, e2, b2. The door is moved about its pivot f by a lever g. A number of doors with the levers g in line may be operated by a rope L or other connection from a single hydraulic cylinder or other operating device, and several such series of doors may be connected in parallel for delivery to trucks on parallel tracks.
