Conveying from working face in mines. - After the coal has been undercut, a pan 12, 15 having its side 15 connected to the head and tail ropes 6, 7 of a haulage system is introduced into the cut, the coal above the pan is broken down, the pan is hauled to the loading point, and the operation repeated. The pan is mounted on skids 13, 14 so that the lower face 12 is inclined away from the working face. The ropes 6, 7 are operated from a double-drum winch 11, and they are led round guide pulleys at 3, 4 or at 20 for hauling the pan along the face 2 or into the roadway 1. The pan is guided along the face by the props 16. Before the pan is brought into position the undercut portion of the coal face is supported by chocks 19. Two or more pans may be used with each haulage system.
