摘要
281,929. Gibb, F. G. April 25, 1927. Breakwaters; piers; landing-stages; sea walls. -A caisson for the construction of harbours, breakwaters, quays and similar structures comprises a hollow pre-cast buoyant structure of reinforced concrete divided into vertical compartments and having openings in its base sealed by valve members provided with means for opening them when the caisson is to be sunk in position. The caisson comprises outer walls a and a base b, with longitudinal and transverse partitions d, c. The compartments are formed at the bottom with openings e having bevelled edges which form seatings for valve-like members f, Fig. 2, of concrete or other material. The members f are supported by bolts g rotatable in wood or other bars h disposed across the base of each compartment. When the caisson is to be sunk, the valve members f are opened by rotating the bolts g. The caisson may be secured to the bed of the sea or river by driving piles j through bushes k cast in the bottom of the caisson. All the valve members may then be opened, and liquid concrete poured through pipes into the caisson until it fills the space m below the bottom of the caisson. The walls of the caisson are continued downwards below the base b, the lower edges being preferably pointed. In order that several caissons may be aligned, a bay o, Fig. 2, and a projection p may be formed in the end walls.
