Cotton and like seeds, obtaining fibres from. - In apparatus for defibrating cotton seed, the decorticated hulls of cotton seed, or other fibre bearing seeds, for collecting the fibres and for separating the dust &c. of the kind described in Specification 209,470, a fan 8, Fig. 1, is secured on the shaft 6, below the defibrating elements 14, 7, in a chamber 9 to produce a. plenum of air at the base of the apparatus. This plenum is regulated by openings 11 in the pedestal 10, which can be masked to the desired extent by shutters 12. A fan 22 on the top of the body 3 assists in carrying the fibres away. The defibrated seeds are discharged by blades 19 carried by the body 3. The fan blades 8 may be mounted on the casing 9 which is then carried by the shaft 6. The defibrating elements 14 may be arranged along a generatrix of a cone, the avis of which coincides with the axis of the shaft 6. The element 14, Fig. 5, is curved to fit a rounded bar 17 and its turned-over edges 141 are held between the bar 17 and its support 13 by bolts 16.
