Automatic stripping or cleaning of doffers on carding engines for silk, cotton or woollen cards

285,608. Fairclough, J. Dec. 17, 1926. Carding-engines. - The doffer is stripped or cleaned by a slowly rotated roller provided with a helical strip of teeth engaging the teeth of the doffer. The roller is cleaned by an oscillating toothed member which deposits the waste removed on a stationary toothed member on the cover of the doffer. The roller 7 is mounted in open bearings in the usual brackets 6 and is driven by a worm 36 on a shaft 13 connected by bevel gears 17, 18 to a, shaft 16 driven by a cord 21 from the doffer shaft 3. The oscillating member 27 is mounted in brackets 23 and operated by an eccentric 20 on the shaft 16. The stationary member 29 is mounted on the doffer cover 4. The teeth on the various parts are so arranged that the member 27 strips the roller 7 as it moves to,- wards the member 29 and afterwards deposits the waste on the member 29 on its return journey, so that the waste collects on the cover 4 behind the member 29.
