A method of preparing white paint or pigment and the paint or pigment prepared thereby

Paints; pigments.-A white pigment is made by mixing and grinding together in or about the stated proportion by weight, 60 parts of zinc oxides, 2 parts of sulphur, 1¢ parts of sodium carbonate, 1 part of sodium chloride, ¢ part of ultramarine blue, and preferably 1 part of barium sulphate, heating the mixture in a closed, chemically inactive, retort, and cooling and grinding the product. The heating may be effected in a porcelain crucible up to about 500‹ C. The pigment may be ground into a vehicle such as linseed oil, and by the addition of a drier and thinning means, formed into a paint.
