281,259. Herman, O. Nov. 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Reciprocating sieves; separating by rotary pitted cylinders; separating by shaking-apparatus; separating on inclined endless bands.-In portable machines for sorting seed grain of the kind in which the grain after being separated according to size by winnowing and sifting apparatus 4, 6, Fig. 1, and by a sorting cylinder 17 is conveyed to a sorting table 19 on which it is sorted according to specific gravity, the sorting table and the sifting apparatus are driven so as to oscillate freely by means of rotating flyweights which move therewith. As shown, the table 19 is supported so as to have a variable inclination by trunnions 23 on a frame 22, which is suspended by links 40 and driven by two fly-weights 27, 28 rotating in opposite directions. The weights are driven by bevel wheels 26, shaft 25 and swinging belt 21. The grain may be supplied from the hopper 9 by the conveyer 10 to the winnowing machine, and after passing through the sifting apparatus 6, and sorting cylinder 17 is carried from the hopper 38 by the conveyer 18 to the sorting table by way of the shoot 37. Alternatively the grain may be supplied directly to the table 19 by way of the hopper 38. The fan 5 of the winnowing apparatus has two branches which aspirate the grain as it passes to and leaves the sifting apparatus. The sorting table may be removed and replaced by an endless travelling band 33, Fig. 2, actuated by rollers 31, 32 carried by a box 29, which is mounted on the frame 22. The rollers are driven from a pulley 36 on the shaft 25 and a belt 35. Specification 303,233 is referred to.
