Fibres, obtaining.-In a machine for detaching the barbs and shredding the quills of feathers, feed rollers 3 feed the feathers to rotary saws or cutters 5 driven in the same or in opposite directions by gearing 12 from a pulley 18. The saws are mounted on a carriage 11 reciprocated by a crank and consist of serrated discs of different diameters threaded upon shafts 10. A belt-driven fan extracts the detached barbs. In a modifica,- tion, reciprocating saws are used.
